Join the Campaign: Justice for Troy Davis!

Troy Davis was convicted of murdering an off-duty Georgia police officer in 1991. Two decades later, Davis remains on death row even though the case against him has fallen apart. Davis' latest appeal was rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court on March 28, 2011.

In turning aside all legal requests, the Court bypassed a chance to answer two fundamental questions that the Court has never answered explicitly about convicted individuals’ claims of innocence: one, whether the Constitution bars the execution of an individual who is actually innocent of the crime, and, two, what standard of proof are federal judges to use in judging whether an individual actually is innocent. -SCOTUSblog

No objective person could confidently determine that Davis is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt from the evidence available now in his case. That leaves an ominous cloud hanging over an irreversible sentence such as the death penalty...the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles, as the final fail-safe, has the opportunity to commute his sentence to life and prevent the possibility of executing an innocent person. -Amnesty International USA
