Santa Clara County Faith Community Calls on DA to not Seek Death Penalty

Rally to Stop Executions in Santa Clara County, CA.

Members from the faith community joined the Santa Clara County Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty in a Rally at Lytton Plaza, in Palo Alto on Sunday Feb. 28, calling on the District Attorney not to seek the death penalty.

The rally opened with the singing of the Saint Francis Prayer followed by a reading of those on death row from Santa Clara County and the family members of the victims.

Mary Kay Raftery, left, whose son Paul a former police officer was murdered, spoke at the Rally. She said that although her son was murdered she was not in favor of the death penalty. The killers of her son were sentenced to 50 years imprisonment. She said that that was adequate to protect society.

The rally ended with the singing of "We Shall Overcome."

Music was provided by Chris Lundin from St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. The Rally was sponsored by The Santa Clara Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty.
